Served in the Civil War, Co H, 28th Regiment of the NC Infantry. The story is that Doctor wa s wounded in battle in the Civil War and come home to recuperate. He stayed home about 1 1/ 2 years before going back to join his company. Apparently, the family felt he was recuperate d long before he went back and was ashamed of his actions and disowned any relations with him . Years ago, Bud's uncle was walking in the cemetery at High Shoal with his father and seein g the grave marker of Doctor, asked about him. Grandfather Rollins said Doctor was not a memb er of the family. Uncle later overheard other family members speak of Doctor and again aske d his father. His father said yes, Doctor was a brother of his grandfather, James Jefferson , but Doctor had "shamed the family" and was not counted as "one of us".
