Nauvoo bapt. for dead file FHL, baptisms done by grandson, James Rawlins/Rollins for his parents and grandparents, named indinances done in 1844. These people all deceased by then. Virginia Gazetta Newspaper article, wanted ad on James Rawlings coming from notice on film 029723, issue 24 Oct 1777, wnted James rawlins abt. 40,had lived two years in Martin county, N. Car., 10 pds reward for capture, dark complexion, cut on one of his cheeks Complaintant,John Bryan, of Craven county. 1790 census N. carolina, 975.6x2p, pg. 119 or 117?, Charles Rollings and Prudy Rollens. Pitt county, N. Carolina deed abstracts, 975.644R2a, F-l-40. North Carolina Hist. and Gen. Register, volume 2, #975.6D25n, pgs. 398-405 capture off Hyde county with his family in a boat to return to England, James Rawlins, his despositions and trial,1777, at time was stated of Martin county.
Whitmel Hill married to a Blount and possible relative to him on his wife, Priscilla's side. Family Tradition states he had a brother who served in Rev. There is a Charles Rollen on 1840 census in Pitt county age 87 who is stated to be a rev. war vet. This may be his brother in place and only one I could find from that general area that served. IGI controlled extraction names for London area, chr. 27June 1739 St. Botolph Without Aldgate, London, C006336 -5566, checked all spellings, closest James Rawlins to approxmate age cited in wanted poster on James Rawlins, son of John Rawlins and Elizabeth.
Beaufort county, deed book 3, pg. 36, film #416404, James Charlescraft for 40 pds from John Rawlings of Boston, Mass., merchant buys,100 acres in county on southside of Tar River, dated 2 Mar 1749/50, proved 20 March 1749. Since family tradition that one of James's son was born near where battle of Bunker Hill was fought and that was near Boston, it would appear possible that this John could have been of England and been son of James, as a merchant was doing business in Boston when this James would have been a boy, buying land in Beaufort county which is a parent county of Pitt and Martin counties at a point in time. Pitt formed in 1760.
