His son, Joseph Kerr, is listed as the administer of his Will . In 1846, William's son-in-law, John Workman, took guardianship of William's younger child ren: John, Robert, Andrew, and Mary C. Six of William's children, William, Joseph, John, Ro bert, Andrew, and Mary C., each received $3608 from his estate. In January of 1848, William 's son Archibald released all interest in William's estate.(1) There are two records for William Kerr (deceased) on 31 Dec 1847, declaring "real estate sale for minor heirs of above John Workman guardian."(10,11) He is probably buried with his w ife at Upper Richwoods cemetery, were Josephias Kerr and Sarah Price. (1) Joseph Jr. was apparently a Private in the Nort h Carolina militia during the Revolutionary War. Pierce's Register gives two Joseph Kerr' s fighting for North Carolina, with one stating: "Joseph Kerr, born in Pennsylvania, the family moved to N. C. when he was very young."(2) After the War, before 1791, a Joseph Kerr w as granted two parcels of land in Tennessee. Parcel 2838, 1850 acres on the northside Duck River on both forks of Spring Creek; and Parcel 2897, 2000 acres on the northside Duck River.(3) He probably moved to Tennessee several years later. The first settler, John White , moved his family to the Cumberland mountains in 1789; the Cherokee Indians were not confined until 1791; the first town, Sparta was settled in 1802; and the county was organized in 1806. There are also three land survey records for William Kerr in White County between 1824 and 1828.(4)
