- BURIAL: Oakwood Cemetery
DEATH: Died of wounds suffered at Gettysburg (died in a Federal hospital near battlefield) . He was a Sgt. in Co H, 28th NC Infantry Regiment. Bud Willis found his grave (the famil y had looked for years) in Raleigh, NC at the Oakwood Cemetery. James Jefferson died in a Federal hospital near Gettysburg. He was wounded in the left leg a nd right shoulder on July 3, 1863, and taken prisoner. He was first buried near Gettysburg and right after the War his body was relocated to the Oakland Cemetery in Raleigh, NC.
